8,000 units LCTC m/v FIDELIO was christened by Ms Chisato Nagatani at a naming ceremony in Yokohama, Japan on September 20.
The vessel is the second in a series of five LCTC’s ordered by Wallenius Lines and built at Daewoo Shipyard and Marine Engineering in Korea. The first, m/v FAUST was delivered in May this year and the remaining three vessels will be delivered in February, August and October 2008.
Having the environment as a top priority, m/v FIDELIO is equipped with a state of the art technology regarding ship design and environmentally friendly alternatives. This regards safety issues, communication equipment and several measures to reduce the environmental impact from ships. For example, the vessel will be equipped with PureBallast, the world’s first IMO approved Ballast Water Treatment system. PureBallast is developed in a joint venture between Wallenius Marine subsidiary Wallenius Water and AlfaLaval. m/v FIDELIO will also be equipped with a “Green Passport”, a "declaration of contents", in which all materials and substances used onboard are listed.
