Specialists in ships
Wallenius’ Technical Department employs naval architects, inspectors, cargo hold specialists, hydrodynamicists, specialists in hull design and paint, as well as in control and navigation equipment. Together with other specialist functions, they are developing the ships of the future. They also function as technical consultants to our partners and subsidiaries in the development of their fleets.
Flexible deck and ramp system
Heavy units are loaded on the strengthened decks. Several decks are divided into sections which can be hoisted. These sections are manoeuvred by means of mobile lift-cars.
360 degrees bridge
The ship’s bridge has a 360 degrees outlook, is totally enclosed and air-conditioned. The outfit is ergonomically shaped and the equipment fulfils the requirement for Sole Look Out at sea and it is also designed for Pilot/Co-pilot system of working in high traffic areas.
Integrated navigational system
The Navigation System is mainly integrated by means of an Integrated Navigational Console, INC, installation. The INC is of the ANTS (Automated Navigation and Track keeping System) type. A VDR (Voyage Data Recorder) has also been installed. The radar equipment has anti-collision computers (ARPA) with free selection of picture, synthetical chart picture etc.
Safety arrangements
For fire extinguishing, the cargo holds, engine room and interior have a permanently installed water fire post system as well as portable fire extinguishers. Cargo holds and engine room also have CO2-equipment of total flooding type. Some parts of the engine room are also covered by a High Fog water-mist extinguishing system.
Better environmental performance
Reduced emissions by about 15 percent per transported unit is achieved by increased effectiveness.
A twisted leading edge rudder has reduced resistance.
The state-of-the-art Ballast Water Treatment system, PureBallast, was first in the world to fulfil the IMO convention on Ballast Water Treatment. All of our vessels will have PureBallast installed before 2015.
Engines with improved combustion have resulted in very low NOx emissions; main engine as low as 11 g/kWh and auxiliary engines as low as 7.3 g/kWh.
A Green Passport as described in the 2003 IMO Guidelines on Ship Recycling as issued by Lloyds Register. A Green Passport will facilitate the recycling of ships and follow them during their entire life time, providing information about building materials, equipment, systems and substances known to be potentially hazardous.
Bio-degradable oil is used in all hydraulic systems and in the stern tube seal.
The use of chemicals has been reduced to a minimum, and the chemicals used are approved according the strict requirements in our ‘white list’.
Electronically-controlled cylinder oil lubricators have reduced the use of cylinder oil to a minimum.
