Wallenius Marine orders IMO- approved ballast water treatment system
On December 17, Wallenius Marine signed the contract with Alfa Laval for seven ballast water treatment systems, PureBallast.
The contract involves seven retrofit systems to be installed on Wallenius Lines newest vessels. Four installations are planned for 2008 and another three for 2009. The newbuildings 4449 and 4450 will have these applications installed already from start.

Order world’s largest roll-on roll-off carriers
(Stockholm and Lysaker, 18 December 2007) Wallenius Lines (OW) and Wilh. Wilhelmsen ASA (WW) have agreed with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) to build four vessels which will be the world’s largest roll-on roll-off carriers (ro-ro). The vessels will be built in Japan at Nagasaki yard for delivery in 2011 and 2012.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics wins Clean Seas Award
Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics has won the 'Clean Seas Award' at the prestigious 2007 Lloyd's List Awards for its continuing efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its deep sea operations. It was the only shipping company to be short listed for the award.
The award citation acknowledges that the company significantly cut its sulphur dioxide emissions over a five year period. In 2004 Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics became the first major shipping company in the world to use low sulphur fuel. It is the second year that the company has won the award outright - acknowledging its environmental leadership in the maritime field.

Wallenius vessel saves four Swedes in distress at sea
The Swedish-flagged car carrier vessel m/v DON PASQUALE was contacted at 09.10 (utc) this morning, December 15 2006, by the MRCC (Marine Rescue Coordination Center) Cape Town after an SOS call from a Swedish sailing vessel in distress outside of the Namibian coast. DON PASQUALE changed its course and reached the sinking vessel just before 14.00. Aboard were four persons, all Swedish, and they could all be rescued by the crew aboard the car carrier.

As announced on July, 31, 2006, Wallenius Lines entered into an option agreement with TNT and AutoLogic granting Wallenius Lines the right, but not the obligation to acquire their 60 per cent shareholding in Global Automotive Logistics SAS (GAL).
Wallenius Lines has today, December 1, 2006 decided not to exercise the option of 60 per cent shareholding in GAL since the necessary requirements for such an agreement have not been fulfilled.
Wallenius Lines’ joint venture company Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics will continue to be an active 40 per cent shareholder in GAL.

The ARC Fleet expands
The partly owned Wallenius Lines company American Roll-on Roll-off Carrier, Inc (ARC) is now expanding its fleet of US flagged vessels from five to eight ships.
“This expansion is part of our strategical focus on the American continent”, says President Christer Olsson, Wallenius Lines.
One of the vessels now deployed in ARC comes from the Wilhelmsen fleet, whilst the two others are from Wallenius Lines. The transition will be commemorated by a ceremony on Thursday 29 September in Baltimore, United States.

Ms Lone Fønss Schrøder has been appointed President of Wallenius Lines, effective October 1, 2005. She will succeed Mr Christer Olsson who has been the company’s President since 1990. Mr Olsson will continue his position as Vice Chairman of Wallenius Lines.
Ms Lone Fønss Schrøder has a Master’s Degree in Law from the University of Copenhagen and a Master’s Degree in Economy and Finance from the Copenhagen Business School. She has broad international experience from her 21 years (1982-2002) in senior management and board positions at A P Møller-Maersk.
Ms Lone Fønss Schrøder is presently Chairman of Kværner ASA and Bioneer (Danish Technical University), Vice Chairman of Aker ASA and non-executive Director of the Board of, among others, Yara International ASA, Vattenfall AB and DSB in Denmark. Ms Lone Fønss Schrøder is a Danish citizen.

Signing for Technical consultation
As of February 1, 2005, Wallenius Marine has been contracted to give technical consultation for all the EUKOR newbuilding, conversion and environmental projects. A signing ceremony was held at the EUKOR head office in Korea on January 14.
President of Wallenius Marine Per Croner and technical manager Christer Nygren were present to sign the agreement. The work has already begun, with the conversion of an older RoRo vessel, where extra car decks and garage will be installed.

The ARC-fleet plans for expansion
American Roll-On Roll-Off Carriers (ARC), a company jointly owned by Wallenius Lines and Wilh.Wilhelmsen and handling the US-flag operation, will expand the North Atlantic service with a Round the World Service including Mediterranean and AG.
ARC is currently operating five vessels, but will by the end of 2005 deploy eight vessels. The additional three vessels will be purchased from the owners.
Over the coming three years, Wallenius Lines will take delivery of six new vessels into their fleet of PCTC and LCTC-vessels. An additional rebuilding programme is underway with the elongation of five PCTC-vessels that will add the loading capacity with 1200 cars on each vessel.

EUKOR orders four PCTCs newbuildings from HHI
On 14 January 2005, EUKOR signed a contract with Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for the building of four new PCTCs with a capacity of 6,500 units each.
The vessels will be built at the Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Shipyard in Mokpo and are scheduled for delivery the first half of 2008.
The newbuildings will be equipped with a 150 ton stern ramp and 12 single-stanchion-row cargo decks whereof 4 decks are liftable. Max. speed will be 20.5 knots.

Elongation Project launched
On November 29, 2004, the Steel Cutting Ceremony for the Elongation project was held at the Hyundai Vinashin yard in Vietnam. President Mr. S.W. Lee, Project Director K.Y. Kim, a representative from Lloyd’s and others from the ship yard management were present, as well as Per Croner and Jan Berglöw from Wallenius Marine.
The site office in Vietnam will be opened around December 10 and real work with the elongations will start on December 14.

Contract Signing Ceremony
On October 18, 2004, the signing ceremony for the newbuilding contracts of the three 8,000 unit PCTCs was held at the OW head office.
Former President of Wallenius Lines, Christer Olsson said he was pleased that Wallenius is the company to “break the ice” with the largest ships in the world.
The newbuildings will have hull numbers: 4444, 4445 and 4446 and will be built at DSME, Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, in Korea with delivery in late 2007 and early 2008.

Wallenius Lines has placed an order for three new Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTCs) that will be the biggest in the world. The vessels will be 228m long and capable of carrying 8,000 cars.
Earlier this year Wallenius Lines ordered three ships with a capacity of 6,500 cars and announced that it was to extend five of the fleet’s Boheme-class vessels by 28 metres to 228 metres increasing their capacity by 20% to 7100 cars.
The combined investment in the new and lengthened vessels will be USD 450 million.

Wallenius Lines AB has contracted with Daewoo shipyard for construction of two PCTC-vessels with delivery in the latter half of 2006 with an option for additional two vessels for later delivery. The ships, which will have a capacity of just over 6,700 vehicles, will be put into service in Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s traffic.
A decision in principle has been taken to extend five of the existing so-called Daewoo-ships, built in late 1990s. The ships will, after being extended by 28m, have a vehicle capacity of 7,100 and remain in service for Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s traffic. The extension work on the vessels is scheduled to start early next year.

On March 24, 2004, we launched the new websites for Wallenius Lines and Wallenius Marine. We can now more easily show the different activities as performed respectively by the two sister companies Wallenius Lines, as the ship owner and investor, and Wallenius Marine, as ship managers handling the manning and technical operation of the Wallenius fleet.
